(Bangkok, 1 May 2006) Thai Solidarity Group for Democratic Movement in Nepal highlighted the Nepal situation at a rally while celebrating the May Day in Bangkok today morning. Addressing the rally, Parat Nanakhorn, of Asia Pacific Workers Solidarity Link (APWSL), member of the Thai Solidarity Group for Democratic Movement in Nepal, admired the people's struggle for democracy that forced the Nepalese king to move back from the unrestrained position.

Highlighting the people's struggle in Nepal, she stressed that the full-fledged democracy and peace are the core issues that can guarantee the trade union rights in Nepal. 'Perpetrators of state atrocities during the king's regime should not be allowed amnesty, and the voice of the people should be reflected in the democratic process ahead', she stressed.

'The historic sacrifices made by the Nepalese people should not be forgotten. There is a long way to go to fulfill the aspirations of the democratic movement', she added, 'Nepalese trade unions faced brutal suppressions during the regime and attempts were posed by the government to curtail the basic rights and freedoms of the workers through legal and other measures during the autocratic regime. Now, the situation has been changed where all the rights of the trade unions should be guaranteed, by scraping all anti-worker measures without any delay.'

Each May 1st brings challenges and victories for workers around the world. Challenges, which are caused and made complex by neo-liberalism, patriarchy, greed of transnational corporations, conflicts, war on terror, lack of civil, political and socio-economic rights. Women workers face even greater challenges due to the inherent patriarchal structure of society which permeates the work place as well. Women workers in the informal economy and those living in areas of conflict are particularly the most vulnerable to exploitation. Yet, despite whatever challenges and hurdles there are, workers and peoples movements around the world struggle and fight against these oppressive and exploitative forces every single day. We celebrate the 1st of May as a day to rejoice the solidarity among workers and the battles we have won.

              Long Live Workers Solidarity!

April 21- At least 500,000 democracy fighters marched in Capital cities defying 18 hours long curfew. After massacre in Kalanki the curfew extended 7 more hours, the city dwellers face 25 hours curfew continuously.
This hardship is no way comparable with the sacrifice of our freedom fighters who accept martyrdom during yesterdays protest. Three protesters shot dead by security forces. Corpses forcibly seized by police from the Kathmandu Model Hospital. Among them a small business operator young man Basu Ghimire -22 only identified two deceased bodies are unidentified till today. There is speculation of more loss of life in Kalanki massacre yesterday according to the protesters in the frontline. There are over hundred protestors critically injured and countless numbers have sustained injury.
