The UNHCR is helping to feed and shelter Aceh's homeless. The UN refugee agency has announced it is withdrawing from the tsunami-hit Indonesian province of Aceh on Friday. The UNHCR's pullout comes ahead of the introduction of new restrictions on foreign aid agencies doing only emergency relief in the region. Jakarta apparently failed to approve the agency's plans, which include the large-scale building of new homes. Correspondents say Jakarta has uneasy relations with the UNHCR, which it distrusts over ethnic Acehnese aims.

Regional UNHCR representative Robert Ashe expressed disappointment, but said his staff were happy to return if asked. The Indonesian government originally set a target of 26 March - three months after the Indian Ocean tsunami - for the withdrawal of all foreign aid agencies which are not contributing to long-term reconstruction.

If the world is to progress, women power needs to be append

Working Women Organization organizes regularly every year, sixteen days campaign against Gender violence. It addresses the gender discrimination practices of governments of all political stripes and of all ethnic and religious persuasions. In a womans life the Gender discrimination, which Start at an early age, continue to affect the rest of her life. Certain customs and cultural norms tolerate and even approve of such violations. If the world is to progress, women power needs to be append. WWO defends freedom of thought and expression, due process and equal protection of the law and Gender equality and believe that Womens groups, human rights groups, Trade Unions, non governmental organizations and neutral men can bring about the change by increasing awareness about womens rights, lobbying for increased participation of women in politics, governance and social sectors. In this view WWO organized sixteen days activism against gender violence campaign in 2004. WWO organized several activities in seven districts of Punjab like Lahore, Kasur, Rawalpindi /Islamabad, Sheikhupura, Faislabad, Gujranwala and Sialkot.

The 49th session of the Commission on the Status of Women ended on March11 with delegations acting on the proposed resolutions. Some resolutions did not achieve consensus, and needed to be put to a vote. The roll-call voting on some of the resolutions subsequently delayed the proceedings, so that some items on the agenda were not taken up. Chairperson Kyung-wha Kang announced that the Commission had no more time to address the sessions remaining business and said only: we will see if and when we are able to reconvene. The US delegation was most vocal in its expression of opposition to any language contained in the proposed resolutions that referred to reproductive rights, as well as to references to the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms Discrimination Against Women, a treaty to which the US has not signed.

FORCED LABOUR, FORCED MIGRATION AND TRAFFICKING

We, one hundred migrant and refugee women from Burma currently taking refuge and seeking livelihood in Thailand have discussed and explored the issues of forced labour, forced migration and trafficking in relation to women from Burma. We are women of different ethnicities with multiple experiences of forced migration. Some of us have also experienced forced labour and others trafficking. We are all committed to assisting our sisters who experience these human rights abuses.

We estimate that there are 2 million internally displaced persons living in desperate conditions in Burma, 120,000 refugees living on the Thai-Burma border housed in refugee camps, and well over one million migrants and their families living and working in Thailand.

We are particularly concerned that the majority of these people are currently forced to migrate both internally and externally due to the following reasons:
