1. In spite of so many ups & downs in the trade union movement around the globe starting nearly two centuries ago, workers all over the world have been active to protect their professional rights and interests. We have internalised the spirit that economic prosperity of all workers can be ensured through the promotion of trade union rights, if we could work together in unity. In this context, we, the workers of Nepal under the banners of recognized national centers of trade unions - General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT), Nepal Trade Union Congress (NTUC) & Democratic Confederation of Nepalese Trade Unions (DECONT); Professional Alliance for Peace & Democracy (PAPAD-it includes Nepal Bar Association, Nepal University Teachers Association, Nepal Teachers Association, Nepal National Teachers Association, Nepal Engineers Association & Nepal Medical Association) and Confederation of Nepalese Professionals (CONEP) are standing together in order to celebrate May Day 2005 collectively. on this occasion on behalf of entire Nepali Working people we extend our heartfelt greetings & gratitude.2. Demanding for 8 hour working day including 8 hour each for work, recreation & rest, workers of Chicago had marched in the streets on May 1, 1886. Realizing the relevance of the demands put forth in Chicago, workers of the world celebrate the 1st of May by an exchange of best wishes & solidarity. on this day, working people demonstrate the spirit of democracy in a united way and emphasise strengthening of the trade union movement in their respective countries. May Day has been considered as a public holiday for the whole working mass from labourers to professionals.
