Occupational Health and Safety Training for Trainers in Thailand

Committee for Asian Women organised a three day training of trainers on Occupational Health and Safety for women workers in the manufacturing sector in Ayutthaya, Thailand on 12th -14th February 2010 in collaboration with the Council of Work and Environment related Patient’s network (WEPT). The training was attended by 40 participants from Thailand and Cambodia representing garment, textile, electronics, automobile and herbal medicine manufacturing industries.

The training aimed to increase awareness and enhance knowledge of women workers on issues concerning occupational safety and health, national laws and labour standards related to OSH. It also aimed in building capacity and skills of women workers to be able to further share knowledge and information acquired from the training to women workers, either in formal setting through union based or factory based training or in informal training at workplace such as peer education and small group discussions.

The training covered key Occupational Safety and Health topics including: chemical, material and fire safety, occupational diseases, monitoring the factory for workers’ safety and health, rights to medical benefits and compensation, reproductive health and violence against women at work.
